Homemade Vanilla

Hi there!

So I just started a NEW project, making homemade vanilla!  This one will hopefully help increase my patience levels, LOL, since the vanilla takes at least a month before it'll be done, if not two.  I started them on Thursday, September 27th.  I'll check them again around Halloween, and see how they're doing.  Hoping to have something for a Christmas gift idea by the time THAT rolls around.

Here is a picture of the start of my project:

So, basically all it is, is vodka that has vanilla beans split and dropped into it.  I just have to shake the jars once in a while, and I'm told it comes out amazingly!  We'll see...  :)

First sale! =D

I got a special order for one of the monster hats in a different color combo (blue & green) on Etsy!  I've finished the hat, just need to charge my camera battery to take pictures and get it sent to her.  My very first hat that I'm selling, instead of giving away.  Yaayyyy!!  Hopefully more to come  :)

I'll post a picture when I get them taken.

OMG, not a hat! :D

Heeyyyy, so last night I finally decided to make something BESIDES a hat!  I crocheted a pair of fingerless gloves with some acrylic & wool yarn that my daughter fell in love with.  I really like how they came out; I imagine that there'll be several more pairs incoming, heh.

Here's a picture of both of them:

And here's a closeup of one of them; they were mostly done in half-double crochet:

New DeviantArt account

Shockingly, the name for my deviantArt account is ScrambledYarn!  O.O

http://yarnscrambler.deviantart.com/

Please feel free to check it out; I'm not only going to be posting my yarny goodness over there, I'll also have photographs that I've taken that I thought came out pretty good.  Some of the photos are from our hikes around the state of Maine, where there is some absolutely BREATHTAKING scenery!  Here's a sample of one of the places we visited; Gulf Hagas, WOW:

Stay tuned to see more!

More Hats!

Woohooo!  I've got FIVE hats up on Etsy, now.  :)  These are the ones I added last night:

Lion Hat (sooo much cuter than the picture!)

And my absolute favorite hat so far, the Owl Hat!  I had made this one originally for my niece Dee's baby, due in January (woohoo, a baby model!  lol) but since she's having a girl, I thought I'd make her a more "girly" owl hat!

I'm going to be adding a few more, then crossing my fingers that someone will be interested.  I also do color requests, if anyone wants to mention that to someone looking for a particular hat in a particular color!

Etsy!

Alrighty!  I opened up a shop on Etsy, with a current total of ONE hat for sale, lol!  I haven't had time to list anything else at this point, but I'm hoping that this will be a successful venture.  I also thought I'd try it out because I'm currently taking a marketing and an e-commerce class, and I thought this might give me some ammo for upcoming reports and papers.  :)  So if you'd like to take a peek, my shop is here:

Stay tuned for more hats to be added!

Considering Etsy

I'm debating opening an Etsy shop for myself; I had originally thought I would just sell at craft fairs, but from what I've been told, it's going to be tough to find any that have open available tables!  My sister has told me that several of the old-hands at crafting have been complaining that the fairs are full-up!  Since I've never done a fair before, I had no idea this was a problem.  At least etsy would reach out to more people!

Anyway!  This is what I did while I was on the search for another skein of yarn for my daughter's shrug that I posted. Since Halloween is on its way, and I live in Maine where the weather can be anywhere from tank-top to parka on October 31st, I thought maybe a monster hat would be a good idea!  I started by using the earflap pattern located at: http://allicrafts.blogspot.com/2011/12/free-pattern-earflap-hat-toddler.html  Alli has some REALLY cute stuff!  Anyway... After starting with that pattern I kinda used my imagination, and ended up with:

I absolutely love how this one came out!  That snaggle-tooth is pretty obnoxious, but it's my favorite part.  I'll probably make more, too, just because it was so much fun to make.  :)

Latest Creation First - Shrug!

I thought I would start by posting the last thing I finished first  :)  This is the "Knot Ugly Shrug" from the Happy Hooker's "Stitch 'n Bitch" crochet pattern book.  I loved it; big hook, easy, and quick!  Only took a few days, and that was only because I ran out of yarn, and had to find another skein of the same.  She seems to like it, and said she got lots of compliments at school!

Successful Gift!

Yeeee!  (I got that from my daughter, lol)

My husband forwarded me an email a few minutes ago with a picture attached.  I had crocheted a sweater for one of his coworkers, whose wife was going to be having a baby girl.  I do not know these people from Adam, so I was a little nervous doing something for a stranger.  But I guess they liked it; the email he sent said:

(Mother) just sent me this picture; (baby) is wearing the sweater your wife made, for the first time today.  Fits great!  Thanks again!

And here's the picture he sent, with the baby's face distorted because I don't feel comfortable posting other people's kids on the 'net without permission!

I'm so happy that they liked it; one of my greatest stresses is whether or not a recipient of one of my crafted things will ACTUALLY like and use it.

Greetings and Salutations!

I have been working on getting my act together to try to start a blog, which will allow me to subject any unwary passerby with my crochet creations, nature photographs, and whatever other deviltry I feel like sharing.

It turns out that I got everything sorted out on an extremely historic day for America; the day where, eleven years ago this moment, thousands of lives are lost and changed forever by the terrorist act that took place in New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington DC, starting with the two airplanes that collided with the World Trade Center, that September 11th morning.  I will NEVER forget sitting at my desk in my cubicle that day, as was every other office employee, absolutely dumbfounded, jaw hanging, tears streaming down my cheeks, as we all listened to the frantic newscasting of that day.  I remember calling my husband... I remember leaving the office, seeing a plane in the sky, and feeling afraid...

God bless all of those souls lost that day; and God bless the GREAT men and women who showed what great American heroes they are in their actions and deeds, great and small, to help their fellow men.

God Bless America.
